The primary objective of the council is to regulate the development and maintenance of standards in the teacher education system for the central as well as state governments. This council functions for the central as well as state governments on all matters with regard to teacher education and its secretariat is located in the Department of Teacher Education and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The NCTE plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of teacher education courses and provides many guidelines, and standards for their establishment, recognition, and accreditation. The main task of NCTE is to ensure the maintenance of the quality of teacher training institutes in India[3] and prevent the growth of low-quality teacher educational institutions in the country.[4]
